Today, the company is the largest ride-hailing company in the Middle East and operates in more than 100 cities across 13 countries. However, Careem’s board will be overhauled, with three seats going to Uber representatives and two belonging to Careem. Sheikha, who is Careem’s CEO, and Olsson will have board seats. The news has been making rounds that Uber will be acquiring Careem soon. The news is authentic and both the ride hailing companies have reached an agreement whereby Uber is all set to acquire Careem by the first quarter of 2020. Uber is acquiring Careem for $3.1 billion. Uber will pay $1.4 billion in cash whereas $1.7 billion will be paid in 2018-02-04 Careem’s mission is to simplify and improve the lives of people and build a lasting organization that inspires.

We hear from Magnus Olsson, founder and Managing Director of ride-hailing giant Careem on how they joined the unicorn club with Lyft and Uber. The founders of Careem; Mudassir Sheikha, Magnus Olsson, and Abdullah Elyas, who have been a part of Endeavor’s network since 2018, have invested in Endeavor Catalyst’s latest fund, its MD stated in the announcement. The size of their investment was not disclosed.

After completing a decade in Silicon Valley, Sheikha moved to the UAE in 2008, and served as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company for four years before launching Careem in July 2012. Careem said it plans to bring bike-sharing to more cities throughout the region over the next year.
